The solutions are related to the equation like this  y= (x-solution)*(x-solution)

      For the second solution  (x+1/2), multiply by the denominator in the fraction and get (2x+1)

 

Then, multiply out the two factors... some people use the term FOIL, and you will be in the correct form.
