Hi Tyler,
Since you are given a point (6,-6) and a slope (-1/2), you can plug those values into the point-slope form of a line:
y-y1 = m(x-x1)
Given:
m = -1/2
x1 =6
y1 = -6
We get:
y-(-6) = -1/2(x-6)
Simplify:
y + 6 = -(1/2)*(×-6)
y + 6 = -(1/2)x + (-1/2)*(-6)
y + 6 = -(1/2)× + 3
Solve for y:
Subtract 6 from both sides of the equation to get:
y + 6- 6 = -(1/2)x +3 -6
Simplify:
y = -(1/2)x - 3
This is the slope-intercept form of the line that passes through (6,-6) and has a slope of -1/2.
