I love math, and I love to teach it.
Hell, John,
Let x=number of cars
20,000 +
Let me give you my own example worded just like yours: Say that Salesman A makes $20,000 per year plus
400 (x)
$400 for each car earned for the year.
+ 500 (x)
Salesman B makes $35,000 per year plus $500 per car. How many cars would Salesman A need to sell in order for their amounts earned for the year to be the equal?
The set salaries for each salesman doesn't change, but the number that each one sells is the variable.
Salesman A $20,000 + $400(x) Next, make the amounts equal to each other.
B $35,000+ $500X 20,000+ 400x= 35,000 + 500x Solve for "x"
