How do find the slope of the line passing through each pair of points or state that the slope is undefined. Then indicate whether the line through the points rises, falls, horizontal,or is vertical.  (2,-1) and (-6,3)

slope m = (change in y)/(change in x)

 

If slope is zero, line is horizontal.., no change in y

 

If slope is vetical then slope is undefined

because m = (change in y)/0 if x doesnt change

 

If slope > zero, line rises

 

If slope < 0, line falls

 

Given (2, -1), (6, -3)

m= (-3-(-1))/(6-2) = -2/4  = -1/2

 

Since slope is negative the line falls
