The equation of any line is y = M*x + B
where M is the slope and B is the intercept
5x - 12y = 24
5x = 24 + 12y <--- adds 12y to both sides
5x - 24 = 12y <--- subtracts 24 form both sides
(5x - 24)/12 = y <--- divides both sides by 12
(5/12)X - 24/12 = y <--- splits the left side into two fractions
(5/12)X - 2 = y <--- reduces the fraction
(5/12)X + -2 = y <--- definition of subtraction; subtracting is the same as adding the opposite
Now compare that to y = M * x + B
y = M * x + B
y = 5/12 * x + -2
the slope is M= 5/12 and the intercept is B=-2
Intercept is B=-2, so the line crosses the y-axis 2 squares below the x-axis,
so graph (0,-2) on your graph paper.
From there, go up 5 and 12 to the right. That will be at (12,3)
