Area of linear figures

Question

The floor of a dining hall is 16m long and 13m wide.  A rectangular portion 1m wide all around the floor is to be fitted with green marble slabs. Find the area of the rectangular portion.

To wording here is just awful.  It appears that the overall floor space is 16 m by 13 m, and the edge (border) will be of green marble slabs 1 m wide. THIS LEAVES a rectangular (possibly wooden floor) area that is 14 by 11 m.
