Help with word problem.

Question

Hannah and Francine have $120.  Hannah and Peter have $230.  Peter has 6 times as much money as Francine.  How much money does Hannah have?

I'm going to give you some hints on how to answer these kinds of work problems...I won't give you the answer.

Okay...let's see what we know.   Hannah has a certain amount of money...we'll say h [how imaginative] and the same goes for Francine f and Peter p. We also know that together Hannah and Francine have $120, so    h + f = $120   Okay so far??

 

Now we also know that together Hannah and Peter have $230, so    h + p = $230...Right!?

 

We also that Peter has 6 times more money than Francine...Sooooo...    p = 6f

 

Sooooo...now combining our equations...we can work to solve our problem. Try to see if you can...once you know how to do these, you will become a pro and you will be a champ.
