Which would you expect to travel further in a gel electrophoresis experiment, a piece of DNA consisting of 700 bp or 250 bp? Explain your answer in terms of the physical properties of agarose gel.

DNA consisting of 250 bp would travel farther because it is smaller and can elute through the gel easier as it more easily passes through the larger pores of the gel.
