Fertilizers can improve agriculture. A research of corn grown in Kenya found that the value, V=f(x), in Kenyan shillings of corn production from an average plot of land is a function of quantity, x, of fertilizer used in kg.

 

a.Using a complete sentence, interpret the statement f(20)=11,500.

 

b.Using a complete sentence, interpret the statement f'(20)=350.

 

c.Use part (b) to estimate f(21).

a)

 

20 kg of fertilizer can produce 11,500 shillings of corn.

 

 

b)

 

350 shillings of corn can be produced at a constant weight of 20 kg.

 

 

c)

 

Use point-slope form of a line to write the equation of tangent line.

 

f(x) = 350(x - 20) + 11500

 

f(x) = 350x - 7000 + 11500

 

f(x) = 350x + 4500

 

 

Now evaluate f(21) using this tangent line function.  This will give you the estimate of f(21).
