Mathematics - Algebra a Specialty / F.I.T. Grad - B.S. w/Honors

length of a rectangle is 2 feet less than 5 times the width:

L = 5w - 2

perimeter is 32 feet

2(L+w) = 32

L+w = 16

Since we have L in terms of w already we can substitute

that in place of L in 2nd equation

5w-2+w = 16

6w = 18

w = 3 ft

L = 5w-2 = 13 ft
