The length of a rectangle is 2 more that twice the width and its perimeter is 64. Find the length and width of the rectangle.

I can solve the equation I just don't know how to make the equation

Perimeter = 2 x length + 2 x width

 

P = 2L + 2W

 

The length is 2 more than twice the width.

 L = 2 x w +2  = 2w + 2

 

Substitution:

  64 = 2(2w+2) + 2w

 

  64 = 4w + 4 + 2w

 

  64 = 6w + 4

 

 60 = 6w

 

w = 10

 

The width is 10. The length is L = 2w+2 = 2(10)+2 = 20 + 2  = 22

 

CHECK: The perimeter is 2x10 + 2 x22 = 20 + 44 = 64.

 

The width is 10, the length is 22, checked, verified, and proven to be correct.
