(x^2-x-6) / (x^2-4)

Question

I was given the answer which is (x-3) / (x-2) I just don't understand how to get there. I have gotten as far as factoring the numerator to (x+6)(x-5) and the denominator to (x+2)(x-2).

x^2 -x-6 =.  (x-3)(x+2)

 

x^2- 4  =. (x+2)(x-2)

 

So on simplification = (x-3)/(x-2)

(x^2-x-6) / x^2-4

The numerator may be factorized as (x-3)(x+2)

The denominator will be (x+2)(x-2)

dividing numerator and denominator by (x+2) we finally obtain:

(x-3)/(x-2)
