The combined cost of one advance ticket and one same-day ticket is $50. For one
performance, 40 advance tickets and 20 same-day tickets were sold. The total
amount paid for the tickets was $1700. What was the price of each kind of ticket?

X is price of advance ticket 

Y is price of ticket at the door or same day

 

X+y =50

40X + 20y = 1700

 

Y= 50-x

40X + 20(50-x)= 1700

40X + 1000 - 20x = 1700

20X=700

X= 35

Y= 15
