the problem is in the discription

Question

An 18 – Karat gold necklace weighs 24 grams: 18 grams of pure gold and six grams of metal alloy. The

cost of the necklace is $1200. There is a matching bracelet, weighing 10 grams.

a. What should be the cost of the bracelet?

b. How many grams of each, pure gold and metal alloy, should the bracelet contain?

Answer 1

A.  Cost would be $500.00  (24 divided by $1200.00 = $50.00 per gram)  Hence, 10 grams x $50.00

 

B.  7.5 grams gold and 2.5 metal alloy.  (18 grams is 3/4 of 24)  So the bracelet is 10grams x .75 or 7.5 leaving the remainder of .25 or 2.5 grams.
