Based on the information given, people having

 

a> Only cheese = 6

b> only onion = 8

c> Only pickles = 2

d> Only Cheese and onion = 5

e> Only Pickles and onions = 4

f> Only Cheese and Pickles = 10

g> All 3 = 2

h > plain burger = 2

 

1> 6+8+5+4+10+2 = 35

2> 5+4+10 = 19

3> 6+8+2 = 16

4> That gives the total 39 but the data says they surveyed 40 people. Somewhere manager made an error due to which he got fired.
