A culinary student decorates an 8-in -diameter round cake. What is the approximate area of the top of the cake?

I need help figuring out the problem. Do you use the formula of A= ∏r² and find the exact area and approximate area? Thank you for your help.

Hi Natalie,

                 Yes the formula for area A=π*r² you were told that the diameter of the cake is 8" so the radius r=8/2=4" so the area A=π(4²)=16π sq in. is the exact area. Approximate area =50.265 in²
