This is how I thought about answering the question.
half of 11 is 5 and 1/2- hold on to that thought.
half of 3/8ths comes out too complicated. BUT if I double both those numbers (keeping them equivalent) (6/16) and then half that, (3/16) I can get a number to work with.
I put the 5 1/2 together with the 3/16. I know that 1/2 is the same as 8/16, and I put that with the 3/16. It's a different way to think about the same solution mentioned previously. 5 + 8/16 +3/16
Thinking Mathematically when you are answering questions is a good way to really understand the problems you are working. There are probably other ways to think about how to solve it too!
