Colby, for this one, you want to use the Pythagorean theorem.
If the lot is rectangular, its diagonal forms the hypotenuse of a right triangle. We do not know the width of the rectangle, so we will let that be x.
72^2 + x^2 = 97^2;
So, subtract 72^2 from both sides to isolate x^2; then perform the actual subtraction on the left side; then take the square root of what the difference.
x^2 = 97^2 - 72^2,
so x = sqrt(97^2 - 72^2)
