We determine how many batches of envelopes
are stuffed based on how many hours the macine
runs. Thus, the number of batches of envelopes
is a function of the number of hours. This means
the "x-axis" is hours and the "y-axis" is number
of batches of envelopes stuffed.
If b = # batches stuffed, and
h = number of hours run, your
equation is:
b = 5h
or
y = 5x
with y representing batches stuffed
and x representing number of hours
The slope is 5
The "x-intercept" where y = 0 is (0,0)
The "y-intercept" where x = 0 is also (0,0)
This makes sense considering if the machine
runs zero hours then zero batches get stuffed.

Andrew M.
b = 5h ... or ... y = 5x
y = (5 batches/hour)(10 hours) = 50 batches
Your input, or "x-axis variable" is 10 hours
Your output, or y-axis variable" is 50 batches
of envelopes stuffed.
