Now, the sum of a number (x) and -2 is no more than 6 - No more means that it is less or equal to it. This being said:

 

the sum of a number and -2: x + (-2)

is no more than six <= 6

 

So, x + (-2) <=6, add 2 to each side to isolate x

             +2      +2

            x    <= 8
