If 5 people are in contact with someone who has the flu virus, and the probability of them catching the flu virus is 75%, if we assume that catching the flu virus is an independent event, what is the probability that all 5 of these people do not catch the flu?

Answer 1

Probability that each person does not catch flu is .25.

All 5 not catching is (.25)^5

 

Note: It would be wrong to take 1 - .75^5 as that would give you the probability that not all will get flu.
