I really need help with my math problem I had been stuck on this for the past few weeks already

Let y = |x + 6|

 

5y + 8 = -6y + 8

 

Subtract 8 from both sides and get

 

5y = -6y

 

This is possible only if y = 0.  (Is the problem stated correctly?)

 

|x + 6| = 0

 

x = -6
