Title should be "solving a 3 by 3 system of linear equations using matrix methods"
Use the AUGMENTED MATRIX
1 1 1 0
0 1714 1000 250
0 -1714 -2000 -500
and then the RREF (reduced row echelon function) on it. (TI-83/84 MATRIX option).

I mistyped probably because I misread. First line of augmented matrix ought to be 1 -1 -1 0, obviously. (I wish the minus signs on this platform were bigger! )

Also, if you put the constants on the right, then the last entry of the second line should be -250, just like the -500 in the third line).
