So what is your question?
We have 1 rabbit, 6 elephants, 12 monkeys, 12 parrots...
But what about them?

Distinguo (as Aquinas would say):
Each elephant saw two monkeys
Every elephant saw two monkeys
The elephants saw two monkeys

The elephants aren't said to be going to the river, and the monkeys could be holding one parrot between them.
