A function is an "x" that you plug into to get a y or f(x). Are you sure there isn't a typo as (2,6) and the function is y =3x? Because otherwise there can be no function. A function can have a vertical line pass through it at most exactly once. This is called the vertical line test. A function that has an inverse has a horizontal line pass through it at most exactly once on all points.
