How many times a day do the hour hand and minute hand of a clock lie in a straight line?

The two lie on the same line when they are pointing in the same and opposite directions.

That happens twice every hour, but there’s an overlap every 12 hours.

So they are collinear 47 times in a 24 hour day.

Phillip is correct in your other question.  In your other question, he answers 48 times.  In this question, using the same philosophy, it would be 24 times.
