y=1,150x + 32,850 approximates the average beginning teacher salary y, where x is the number of years after 1990.

it's from the book introductory algebra 5 edition by tussy & koenig.  i'm supposed to graph the equation to find out what info is given by the slope and y intercept.

The slope, 1150, states the change in y (pay) for every unit of change in x (a year).

The y-intercept is the value at year 0 (zero).

so the beginning salary (0, 32850) is the y-intercept.
The slope m=1,150 means the teacher gets a raise of $1,150
per year for each year after getting the job.
