 Cans of regular Coke are labeled as containing 12 oz. Statistics students weighed the contents of 6 randomly chosen cans, and found the mean weight to be 12.15 ounces. Assume that cans of Coke are filled so that the actual amounts are normally distributed with a mean of 12.00 oz and a standard deviation of 0.11 oz. Find the probability that a sample of 6 cans will have a mean amount of at least 12.15 oz.

This problem will need a understanding of the normal curve and of a sampling distribution.

 

We assume X is normally distributed sample with mean (12) and SD = 11/sqrt(6))

 

P ( X > 12.15) (at least 12.15 ounces) = 1 - P(Z < 12.15-12/(11/sqrt(6)) = 1 - P(Z < .0334) = 1 - .5133 = .4867
