Recall that cos2x + sin2x = 1. So, sin2x - 1 = -cos2x
(sin4x + sin2x - 2)/(-cos2x) = (sin2x + 2)(sin2x - 1)/(-cos2x)
= (sin2x + 2)(-cos2x)/(-cos2x)
= sin2x + 2
