For some strange reason. Johnny's new diet caused him to gain weight rather than lose weight. If his weight increased 25 percent to 310 pounds, what did he weigh before he began diet?

Let X be the original weight

 

Increase of 25%  will be Xx25/100 = X/4 = 0.25 X

 

New weight =  X + 0.25 X  = 310 pounds

 

1.25 X = 310 pounds

 

so X = 310/1.25 = 248 pounds

So, Karla, if we add 25%, we now have 125% of the original.

w = 248 pounds
