1) Otosclerosis is a condition that results in irregular ossification (bone formation) around the stapes bone. Would you expect this to result in conductive or in sensorineural hearing loss? What results would you expect from the Rinne and Weber tests in an individual with otossclerosis?

2) The chemoreceptors of the tongue respond to monosaccharides (sugars), metal ions (salty tastes), alkaloids (bitter tastes), and acids (sour tastes). Which type of receptor do you think is most sensitive? Why? (Hint: One of the four types of chemicals is present in many plant poisons.)
