The given equation is 3x = (3/2)x + 3. To solve this, I think that you need something more than pencil and paper, such as a graphing calculator. To solve the equation with the aid of a graphing calculator, graph y = 3x and y = (3/2)x + 3. Then use the "intersection" function under the MATH menu to find the x-coordinates of the points of intersection.

Thanks Mark. Yes I used my TI 84 to do just that before I posted the question, but I could not figure out an algebraic method to solve it. Thanks you for your advice.
