Question

You pay $24.50 for 10 gallons of gas and 1 quart of oil at a gas station. Your friend pays $22 for 8 gallons of the same gasoline and 2 quarts of the same oil. The first question asks to model the problem with a system of linear equations and the second is what is the cost of 1 gallon of gas and 1 quart of oil.

where X = gas

Y = oil

 

22.00 =8X +2Y

 solving two equations

X= 2.25 and Y = 2.00
