√(-2) is the same as i√2.  This is a complex solution.  This type of solution has a conjugate solution of -i√2.
 
If you are looking for a function that contains these solutions, then
 
f(x) = (x - 3)(x - 1)(x - i√2)(x + i√2)
 
f(x) = (x - 3)(x - 1)(x2 + 2)
