This IS an answer--requiring the student to recognize what is the nature of the given information, and where to put it.
I hardly think that the availability of Point Slope form of the equation of a straight line is in doubt. My philosophy is often to call attention to what the student should know, based on the kinds of problems that they're doing. In other words, I am trying to encourage initiative to combat lethargy.  Provide an example? Isn't that what his teacher has done, and his book has done. No student can really be without resources in an instance like this. Consider this as Math ToughLove.

Yeah, lol.  I hear you.  The problem is that todays students often don't have text books issued like I did in school, or, if they do, they can't take them home.  They have to "google" everything or try to work with an on-line book.  It's a pretty sorry state of affairs.
