First isolate t on the right

 

10t = 4 - 2t = 2 - 2t - 8

 

Then bring all t factors to the left and all digits to the right

 

10t - 2t + 2t = 2 - 8 - 4

 

Therefore 10t = -10

 

t = -10/10 = -1

I think this one goes something like this

10t + 4 -2t = 2 -2(t-4)

 

on the left 10t -2t is 8t.  On the right, -2(t-4) is the same as -2 x t or -2t, and -2 x -4 or -8 

*I think thats the associative property or something. anyway

so far that gives us

8t + 4 = 2 -2t -8

add 2 and -8 on the right, leaving

8t + 4 = -2t -6

add 2t to both sides

10t + 4 = -6

add -4 to both sides

10t = -10

divide both sides by 10

t=-1

 

-10+4-(2*-1) = 2-2*(-1+4)

-4 = -4

 

It might have been possible to divide everything by 2 in step one.
