length of field=l= 2w-5

 

Area of field = l* w

 

           150= (2w-5)* w

 

           150=2w^2-5w

 

           2w^2-5w-150 = 0

         

           2w^2-20w+15w-150=0

 

           2w(w-10)+15(w-10)=0

 

            (w-10)(2w+15)=0

 

          w=10   OR   2w =-15

                              w=-7.5

 

Width can't be -ve so width= 10

 

width of field = w =10 yards
length of field=l= 2w-5=2(10)-5=20-5=15 yards
