A Number Decreased by 10 is twice the number

I need help with question I don't get it!

I don't get it! I can't put an "n" at the end my only choice is an "x".

What is it that you do not get?  Call the unknown number whatever you want.  For example, call it "x".  Then translate the given information into mathematical expressions, as Kenneth indicated.  
 
"A Number Decreased by 10" translates into "x - 10".
"twice the number" translates into "2x"
"A Number Decreased by 10 is twice the number" translates into "A Number Decreased by 10" EQUALS "twice the number"
 
Put it all together and you get the equation
 
x - 10 = 2x
 
You will still have to solve the same equation that Kenneth gave you.
 
Where did you get the restriction that you cannot call the variable "N" ?
