The equations are in Standard Form:
Ax + By = C
You want them in slope-intercept form:
y = mx + b
2x + 5y = -5
-2x -2x subtract 2x from both sides
5y = -2x - 5
5 5 5 divide all terms by 5
y = -(2/5)x -1
Next:
3x - 2y = -17
-3x -3x subtract 3x on both sides
-2y = -3x -17
-2 -2 -2 Divide all terms by -2
y = (3/2)x + (17/2)
To change from Standard Form to Slope-Intercept form, just solve
the equation for y: get y by itself on one side of the equal sign
