Expected point value for guessing?

On a standardized exam, multiple choice questions with 5 possible answers are scored as follows: one point is awarded for correct response and (1)/(4)point is subtracted for each incorrect response. If the question is left blank, no points are added or subtracted. Calculate your expected point value if you guess on a question. On average is there anything to gain or lose by guessing?

I thought this might be a trick question because it did not ask for the probability of getting the question right or wrong but the "expected point value"  so  if I get the question right it is worth one point and if I get the question wrong I lose a 1/4 of a point.

Pay attention to key words in word problems.  When it asks for the point value of "guessing", then they're telling you the probability of a correct answer is 1/(number of questions = 5).
