How many feet is needed?

A baseboard molding in a room is being replaced; the room has a rectangular floor with dimensions of 12 feet by 15 feet. Then room also has a door that is 3 feet wide. No molding will be placed in the doorway. Allowing 5 extra feet of molding for waste, how many feet of molding is needed for the room?

Find the perimeter of the room:

 

P = 2(length) + 2(width)

P = 2(15) + 2 (12)

P = 30 + 24

P = 54

 

Subtract the 3 foot doorway to get 51 feet.

 

Add 5 feet for waste to get 56 feet.
