Maria sold a total of 41 discount cards for a choir fundraiser. She sold the same amount the first 3 weeks but only 5 the last week.

let the number of cards on the first week  = c

2nd week = c (sold same amount)

3rd week = c ( sold same as 1st week)

last week = 5

 

so when we add all the weeks the total should be 41

c +c+c+5 = 41

combine like terms

3c + 5 = 41

subtract 5 from both sides

3c = 36

divide by 3

c = 12

 

so she sold 12 tickets the first 3 weeks
