I am guessing that there is a typo. Is the first point (b, b2)?
If so, then slope = [(b+h)2 - b2]/[(b+h) - b]
= [b2 + 2bh + h2 - b2]/h
= (2bh + h2)/h = h(2b + h)/h = 2b + h
