The original two ribbons were the same length.
Picture taking a stick and breaking it into 2 equal pieces..
Each piece is half the length of the original
If you break a stick of the same length into 3 equal pieces
each piece is 1/3 the original length
Logic says the stick broken into two equal pieces will
have longer pieces than the one broken into 3 pieces
Without doing any actual math we can see that Tina used
more ribbon than Julie because the piece she used is
bigger than the piece Julie used.

We want to know if 1/2 Ribbon is bigger or smaller than 1/3 Ribbon
Take the two fractions and get a common denominator
1/2 = 3/6
1/3 = 2/6
3/6 > 2/6
so 1/2 is larger than 1/3 and thus, Tina used more ribbon.
