A set contains the numbers 0, 6, 8, and 14. Two different numbers are selected randomly from this set. What is the probability that each of the given events will occur? Write each probability in a fraction.

 

A) Probability that the sum is greater than 14.

 

B) Probability that the product is 0.

There are 6 combinations of numbers possible. (4*3/2)

 

a) this can only happen with 14+6 and 14+8, 2 combos.

 

2/6 = 1/3 = probability sum > 14.

 

b) this can only happen if one of the numbers is 0. So 3 combinations.

 

3/6 = 1/2 = probability product is zero.
