Area of rectangle

A rectangular plot is half as long again as it is broad and its area is 2/3 hectares. Then find its length?

Answer 1

If the width is x, then the length is 1.5x.  Area = length times width.

 

Therefore,

2/3 = x(1.5x)

2/3 = 1.5x^2

2/3 = (3/2)x^2

4/9 = x^2

2/3 = x

 

1.5 times 2/3 = 1.  Therefore the length is 1.
