"How long will it take you" means to find the time.  Use the rate formula

 

t = d / v

 

where:

d = 100 mi

v = 50 miles per hour

 

Solve for t.

One way to solve this, without algebra, is to simply observe (think) "If we drive one hour and that coves 50 miles, then to go twice as far (100 mile) it should take twice as much time, thus 2 hours."

 

Not to disparage Algebra, but problem solving should also make use of common sense.
