Maria wants to find out whether taller people can jump higher.
She asks people in the street what their height is, and then she measures how high they can jump.

She puts her data in a table:

This can be done in a number of ways, including the calculation of mean, mode and median, and with scatter diagrams drawn either by hand or by using Excel or other spreadsheet software.

I would use Excel to process this data, since it is faster and more efficient.  But you will need to rearrange the data (height of person) from least to greatest, with their corresponding jump heights.  This will allow you to construct an accurate scatter plot.  To construct a scatter plot, first insert the data as I mentioned in the spreadsheet.  Then highlight the data, go to INSERT on the menu bar, and choose scatter.

 

The height of person is independent axis.

The height of jump is dependent axis.

 

 

b)

 

You will need to analyze the scatter plot to draw a conclusion.  What do you notice by looking at the points?  Are they close together at a certain region?  Or are the far apart?
