Solving foe x in expoential equation

 
24/x = 3
 
What is confusing me is the fraction in the exponent.

In addition, the exact same method of taking the log on both sides and solving for x works with any base.  For example, if you start by taking log10 on both sides, you get
 
x = 4 log102 / log103
 
It gives the same number.  If you start by taking log2 on both sides,
 
4/x = log23
 
x = 4 / log23
 
Alex, did the original problem ask it be worked in a particular log base?

Absolutely true that any base can be used, yet the availability of a table or calculator that could determine log23 is rather remote.
