How would I solve this problem?

Mrs. West is 14 years younger than her aunt. If Mrs. West's age in years is as much below 60 as her aunt's age is over 40, how old is each?

I can understand the first sentence and end up getting this:

Let x = age of her aunt today
x-14 = age of mrs. west

but the wording on sentence two is very much confusing me. I hope someone can help.

Edit: Someone else also uploaded this same problem, but no clear answer was given for the second part. I am not the type to copy answers, I just need someone to show me how to do this specific type of problem so I can commit it to memory.

I have real difficulty accepting the fact that 114/2 = 52.

Does anyone ever check their answers?    60-38 ≠ 52-40

David W,

Didn't you always emphasize egoless programming from time to time?Perhaps Mark hit the incorrect key on his keyboard and did not realize his error.  But I am sure the student understood the work he showed here and knew the correct answer from that.

Even though I use spellcheck, I often make typos.  Even though I re-read my posts, I often make incorrect statements.  [note that I said, "typos" and "incorrect statements" -- that describes them, not me -- they would be "typos" and "incorrect statements" regardless of who made them]

So, saying "the fact" and "does anyone check" makes observations directed toward the solutions;  There was no mention of Mark (who quickly changed the answer;  it was not "his answer" or "my answer"].

[p.s., note the use of the words "David W.," "you," "Mark," "his," "his," "I," "he" -- delete those and this comment is better.]

This student indicated difficulty understanding the wording of the problem.  The facts and the process in the answer should be accurate (regardless of who answers).

You used "I" in your comment too.  Also, there was no need to say "Doesn't anyone ever check their answers?".  If you see an inaccuracy, just post your own answer so that it will be correct to its fullest extent.  Or make a revision under the other answer.
